Using SELL safely

Effective 3 August 2026

SELL is designed to reduce risk, but every online marketplace and recruitment service requires careful judgement. Keep conversations on-platform when possible and report suspicious behaviour early.

Account security

Use a unique password, protect email verification codes, sign out on shared devices, and never allow another person to control your account. SELL staff will never ask for your password or verification code. If you suspect compromise, reset your password and contact support immediately.

Marketplace safety

Use real photos and disclose faults. Avoid advance payments to unknown people, pressure tactics, overpayment schemes and requests to move immediately to another messaging service. Inspect valuable items, verify payment independently, keep receipts, and meet in a safe public place where practical. Do not list weapons, illegal drugs, stolen goods, counterfeit products, hazardous materials, recalled products or other prohibited items.

Employment safety

Check the company, role, contact details and interview process. Be cautious if someone promises guaranteed income, asks for gift cards, cryptocurrency or upfront fees, or requests bank credentials and identity documents before a legitimate stage. Companies should collect only information reasonably needed for recruitment and protect applicant resumes.

Reporting and moderation

Signed-in members can report jobs, listings and accounts from detail pages. Include useful facts without posting unnecessary sensitive information. Moderators can review reports, pause content, verify companies and suspend accounts. For urgent danger or suspected crime, contact the appropriate emergency service or police rather than relying only on a platform report.

Support and appeals

Contact if you need help, need to preserve information for a report, or want review of a moderation decision. Provide the relevant job, listing, company or account link and a concise explanation. Do not email passwords, verification codes or full identity-document images.
